Software Industry Success Story
How Computer Solutions Gave a New BDR a Working Sales System Through HubSpot Sales Hub Professional
Computer Solutions, a Texas-based managed IT services provider, had used HubSpot as a marketing-only tool for over a decade when it hired its first business development representative. The BDR tracked outreach in a spreadsheet while account executives logged opportunities by hand in a separate service-desk tool. Campaign Creators deployed Sales Hub Professional's rep-facing tools, giving the BDR a system for sequenced outreach and leadership visibility into what he was producing.

Computer Solutions is a managed IT services provider headquartered in San Antonio, supporting businesses across South Texas with IT support, networking, helpdesk, UCaaS, and cybersecurity services. Founded in 1984, the company employs 85 people and serves approximately 300 client organizations, with strategic alliances spanning Cisco, Microsoft, HP, VMware, and F5.
In an MSP, the overwhelming share of headcount is delivery. Technicians, engineers, and consultants do the work clients pay for, which leaves a small commercial team carrying new business for the whole organization. That team numbers seven at Computer Solutions, a newly hired business development representative and a small group of account executives. For more than ten years the company had used HubSpot for marketing communications only, with no sales-side deployment behind it, so the BDR arrived to a portal that had never been built for the job he was hired to do.

The Challenge
For over a decade, Computer Solutions ran HubSpot strictly as a marketing platform. When the company hired a business development representative to build outbound pipeline, there was no sales system waiting for him: no sequencing tool, no activity reporting, and no way for account executives to work opportunities anywhere but a separate service-desk platform.
Every day without a working sales system was a day the new BDR's outreach capacity went unmeasured and unscaled. Leadership had no way to confirm outbound effort was happening at all, or that it was reaching the right accounts.
Sales tooling gaps left the new BDR and AE team working around HubSpot, not in it:
1. No dedicated sales CRM.
The business development representative had no system built for outbound work and was limited to a spreadsheet. This capped his outreach at three prospecting accounts a day, with no path to scale beyond one person's manual effort.
2. Opportunity data lived in a separate service-desk tool.
Account executives entered deal information into a service-desk platform by hand after each meeting was booked, not inside a system designed for pipeline management. This left deal data disconnected from the sales process and dependent on manual entry.
3. No way to report outreach activity to leadership.
The BDR had no report showing how many emails, calls, or meetings he produced in a given day. Leadership had no dashboard-level visibility into BDR or AE activity, and could not evaluate or prioritize outreach without asking for a manual account.
4. Unreliable account data misdirected outreach.
Existing customer records were not reliably separated from net-new prospects, so the BDR was contacting current customers in place of the new-business targets he was compensated to pursue. Every misdirected call consumed outreach capacity that was already too limited to hit targets.
5. No sequencing for repeatable, multi-touch outreach.
Email, call, and LinkedIn outreach had to be tracked and executed manually with no automatic advancement or removal logic. This made a consistent outbound cadence dependent entirely on one person's memory and available hours.
"Computer Solutions had HubSpot running for marketing, but nothing for sales. Once we knew the BDR's whole day was blocked on not having sequences and a way to show his numbers, we built the rep-facing side first and left the deal-pipeline rebuild for when the volume would actually fit it."
Keith Adelman, Campaign Creators
Why Computer Solutions Chose Campaign Creators
Computer Solutions needed a partner who could turn a marketing-only HubSpot portal into a working sales system without disrupting the marketing use already in place, and who understood managed IT services well enough to prioritize a new BDR's day-to-day workflow over a full platform rebuild. The engagement required:
- Sales Hub Professional seat provisioning matched to actual roles (a dedicated Sales Professional seat for outbound tooling, Core seats for general access)
- A sequencing tool for multi-touch email, call, and LinkedIn outreach
- Activity reporting leadership could use without asking the BDR for a manual account
- A way to keep the BDR off existing-customer records without a full data-migration project
- Verification of existing marketing-side integrations (WordPress, DealFront) so the sales build did not disrupt them
Campaign Creators holds Elite Solutions Partner status with HubSpot, and brought that platform depth to a small internal sales team standing up its first real CRM workflow inside a portal that had never supported one.
How Campaign Creators Built a Sales Workflow Inside an Existing Marketing Portal
Campaign Creators layered sales-specific tooling onto Computer Solutions' existing marketing deployment, sequencing the work around what the new BDR needed first, without rebuilding the existing portal from the ground up.
Seat provisioning and role-based tool access
HubSpot's Sales Professional tier gates sequencing and advanced sales tooling behind specific seat types. Campaign Creators provisioned 1 Sales Professional seat for the BDR role that actually needed sequencing, and 6 Core seats for general edit access across the rest of the team. Seat types were matched to actual tool usage per role, not applied as a blanket license across every user, which keeps license cost aligned as the sales team grows.
The integration build
A sales-tooling rollout risks breaking marketing-side connections that were never part of the scope, so each existing integration was checked directly, not assumed to still be working. Gmail and Outlook inbox and calendar access were connected for the BDR and AE team, enabling automatic email tracking and the Meetings scheduling tool. The existing WordPress integration was checked and confirmed properly installed, not assumed. DealFront, an existing lead-generation integration already feeding leads into HubSpot, was verified as connected and working during the sales-side build, not left unchecked. A separate service-desk integration was reviewed and found to be one-way; it was disconnected at the client's own request as part of an unrelated system migration already underway on their side, and no new integration work was scoped there.
Sales activity reporting
The BDR had no way to turn his own outreach into a number leadership could see, so a dedicated report was configured, not left to manual tallying. The Completed Activities report (Reporting → Reports → Activities and Leads) was configured and walked through directly with the BDR. This gives him a countable, reportable record of emails sent, calls made, and meetings booked, the direct answer to not having any way to show leadership his output.
Automation for repeatable outreach
- Sequences deployed for multi-step, automated email plus manual call and LinkedIn outreach tasks
- Automatic unenrollment from a sequence when a prospect replies or books a meeting, so outreach doesn't continue past the point it's needed
Building for adoption
New tooling that a BDR has never seen before doesn't get adopted from a handoff document alone, so the walkthrough happened live. The BDR's Sequences and reporting setup was walked through feature by feature on a dedicated implementation review call. Three sales dashboards (Sales Opportunity Review, Sales Rep, and Sales Team Performance) were configured for leadership and team-level visibility into the activity the new reporting now tracks.
The Results
Sales Hub Professional gave Computer Solutions' new BDR a working system in place of a spreadsheet, and gave leadership a report they didn't have before. Key outcomes included:
- The BDR gained a dedicated Sales Professional seat with Sequences access, one of the specific tools he identified as necessary to do the job he was hired for
- A Completed Activities report now exists as the BDR's system of record for reporting outreach volume to leadership, directly answering a gap he raised at the outset of the engagement
- Gmail and Outlook inbox and calendar integration now automatically tracks email activity in place of manual logging
- The existing WordPress and DealFront integrations were verified working during the sales-side build, not left unchecked
- Three sales dashboards (Sales Opportunity Review, Sales Rep, and Sales Team Performance) were configured to give leadership team- and rep-level visibility into activity going forward
- A disconnected, one-way service-desk integration was identified and turned off at the client's request, not left silently feeding stale data
Computer Solutions' sales team now has a working entry point into HubSpot that didn't exist before this engagement, built around the roles that actually needed it.
Impact: A Sales Foundation Built to Scale With the Team
Computer Solutions now has a sales-specific layer inside HubSpot that is separate from, and does not disrupt, its decade-old marketing usage. Seats are matched to role: a Sales Professional seat where sequencing tools are actually used, Core seats everywhere else. This lets the portal add more sales users without a license or workflow rebuild. The deal-pipeline build was deliberately deferred until it fits the client's actual opportunity volume, not delivered in a form that couldn't handle it. The Completed Activities report gives leadership a report to build on as the sales team grows, not a one-off dashboard tied to a single moment in the engagement.
Solve Sales Enablement and Activity Visibility Gaps With Campaign Creators
Businesses that have run HubSpot as a marketing-only platform for years often reach a point where a new sales hire has no system to work inside, and leadership has no way to see what outbound effort is actually happening. Closing that gap requires matching license seats to actual roles, connecting the tools a rep needs for repeatable outreach, and building a reporting layer that holds up as the team scales, without disrupting the marketing usage already in place. Campaign Creators builds that sales layer inside an existing HubSpot portal, matched to how a team actually works.
