How NETGEAR Built the HubSpot Data Foundation to Re-Engage a Reseller Network That Fell 50% Since 2019

NETGEAR, a global networking hardware manufacturer, sells through a two-tier network of resellers and distributors that had shrunk by half since 2019, and the company had never run a structured lead nurturing program to win any of that network back. Campaign Creators migrated NETGEAR onto HubSpot Marketing Hub Enterprise and built a governed two-way Salesforce integration to stop an unbounded sync loop across five years of duplicate records, then designed the contact-qualification workflow needed to turn historical reseller data into a validated, addressable audience.

NETGEAR designs and sells networking hardware for home, business, and service-provider customers worldwide, operating out of its San Jose, California headquarters with dedicated channel marketing coverage across Europe. The company depends on a two-tier network of resellers and distributors to move product into the market, a network that numbered 28,000 partners at its 2019 peak. By the time NETGEAR engaged Campaign Creators, that partner network had declined by half, and the company's marketing, sales, and IT teams were operating without a shared, de-duplicated view of who those partners were.

The Challenge

NETGEAR ran its reseller and prospect marketing through Salesforce Marketing Cloud. The platform never supported an integral lead nurturing program, and five years of accumulated data left Salesforce with duplicate leads, orphaned accounts, and no reliable record ID for a large share of NETGEAR's historical partners.

Every additional month without a clean, addressable database meant more of NETGEAR's remaining reseller base drifting further from engagement, and every new campaign risked further damage to sender reputation by mailing into a list nobody had validated in years.

1. Salesforce record duplication

One reseller contact's email address was tied to six separate Salesforce Lead records at once, with the integration switching between them within minutes. This made it impossible for HubSpot to sync any single record reliably, blocking the de-duplication needed to build a usable audience.

2. No lead nurturing program

NETGEAR had never run an integral nurturing program in its marketing organization. Every prior attempt to reconnect with lapsed resellers stayed manual and ad hoc, with no way to track engagement or prioritize outreach.

3. Severe email deliverability decay

A legacy list built up over more than a decade without ongoing hygiene caused HubSpot to block 80% of NETGEAR's initial outbound sends. This made any nurture campaign unsafe to launch until the list was validated, since sending into it risked permanently damaging sender reputation.

4. Legacy picklist and field-permission conflicts

Salesforce picklist fields like technology focus and lead status carried years of inactive, renamed values that blocked the HubSpot sync outright. Routine field updates on live records triggered errors and failed to sync, stalling data cleanup before it could start.

5. No lead-scoring mechanism

Marketing and sales had no way to prioritize which historical resellers were worth approaching first. Outreach stayed unfocused across the full unscored base, with no way to concentrate effort on the accounts most likely to respond.

6. Fragmented reporting across disconnected systems

Reseller engagement data lived separately across Salesforce and NETGEAR's legacy reporting tools, with no unified dashboard connecting them. Leadership had no way to see partner engagement trends or measure the effect of any win-back effort before one even began.

"NETGEAR's biggest blocker wasn't a lack of interest in nurturing their resellers. It was five years of duplicate Salesforce data standing in the way, and we made the call to fix the sync before writing a single nurture email, because no campaign holds up on a database that keeps rewriting itself."

Why NETGEAR Chose Campaign Creators

NETGEAR needed a partner that could take on a stalled enterprise data migration, not simply install new software. The team required deep Salesforce administration experience, hands-on debugging of live sync errors against production data, and a structured way to prioritize five years of historical reseller data ahead of any future nurturing effort, all within a fixed onboarding timeline.

Campaign Creators is a HubSpot Elite Solutions Partner with direct experience stabilizing native Salesforce integrations under exactly this kind of historical data debt.

Solution: How Campaign Creators Rebuilt NETGEAR's Reseller Data Foundation

Campaign Creators sequenced the engagement to solve data integrity before building any nurture logic: stabilize the Salesforce sync first, then validate and segment the historical reseller base, then design the qualification workflow a future win-back campaign would run on.

architecture

Designing the System Architecture

NETGEAR needed marketing and sales to share Salesforce data without either side corrupting the other's records. Campaign Creators built the integration on HubSpot's standard Contact and Company objects, syncing Salesforce's own Record Type field into HubSpot to distinguish channel-partner contacts, leads, and accounts from end users. This lets NETGEAR's marketing team apply every native HubSpot segmentation and reporting tool against the reseller data without administering a separate custom data model.

Migrate

Building the Salesforce integration

A five-year-old Salesforce environment had already accumulated duplicate Lead records under single email addresses, and any bidirectional sync had to survive that without looping. Campaign Creators built a native two-way HubSpot-Salesforce integration governed by an inclusion list, with field-level sync rules (most set to prefer Salesforce unless blank) and a restriction that keeps new HubSpot-only records from writing to Salesforce until they reach Sales Qualified Lead status. Field updates from enrichment tools in HubSpot no longer risk overwriting live Salesforce sales data, and the sync only writes back once a record has actually earned qualified status.

Data

Migrating five years of historical data

Five years of Salesforce Contact, Lead, and Account history, including known duplicates, had to move into HubSpot without blocking the sync from stabilizing first. Campaign Creators sequenced the initial full sync of 500,000 records ahead of de-duplication, importing every record as a non-marketing contact so no unvalidated record could count against NETGEAR's paid contact tier or reach an inbox before its email address was verified. Because none of the newly imported records were live in outbound campaigns yet, the team could isolate and fix Salesforce permission errors without amplifying the underlying duplication problem.

property information

Defining the property set

The technology focus and lead-status picklists carried years of inactive or renamed values, and mapping every legacy state and region value from Salesforce hit HubSpot's own limit on how many options a dropdown property can hold. Campaign Creators reconciled the legacy picklist values against Salesforce's current option set and converted the state and region field mapping to a single-line text field. NETGEAR's team can continue adding new state and region values without hitting that dropdown limit again.

Regional

Mapping role-based record views

NETGEAR's marketing, sales, and IT teams each needed a different lens onto the same reseller records, without a shared label distinguishing a channel partner from an end user. Campaign Creators mapped the Salesforce Record Type values, channel-partner contact, lead, and account versus end user, into HubSpot so each team could filter to the segment relevant to its role. A marketing user working the reseller win-back list can isolate only channel-partner records, and sales keeps its own qualified-lead view, without either team building a separate export.

Automation

Automating the qualification workflow

NETGEAR could not treat all 500,000 imported records as marketing-ready, since a large share had never been validated and mailing to them risked further damaging deliverability. Campaign Creators designed a batch-eligibility workflow that promotes a contact from non-marketing to marketing status only after it clears email validation and shows engagement across a five-email qualification sequence

Adoption

Building for adoption

NETGEAR's own team, not Campaign Creators, would run this system day to day once onboarding closed. Campaign Creators delivered live, recorded training sessions split across a general HubSpot introduction and permission-specific follow-ups, and reviewed the field-mapping and sync-rule documentation directly with NETGEAR's IT and marketing teams across recurring check-in calls ahead of go-live. NETGEAR's marketing and IT teams can independently edit sync rules, add list criteria, or adjust picklist values without escalating routine changes back to Campaign Creators.

The Results

As of the most recent documented status, NETGEAR's data foundation and delivery infrastructure were in place, with the reseller win-back campaign itself still ahead. Key outcomes included:

  • Email bounce rate against NETGEAR's reseller list cut from an initial 80% block rate to 4.6%, ahead of a planned email-validation pass.

  • Inclusion-list governance rule built into the Salesforce integration, replacing an unmanaged sync that had been rewriting the same records in a loop.

  • Contact-qualification workflow designed to promote validated, engaged resellers from non-marketing to marketing status ahead of any future send.

  • Created custom master email template and a rebranded master landing page template delivered for NETGEAR's global campaigns, both confirmed complete.

  • Live, recorded HubSpot training delivered to NETGEAR's marketing and IT teams, split across general and permission-specific sessions.

Impact: A Stabilized Data Foundation for NETGEAR's Next Re-Engagement Push

NETGEAR's Salesforce sync no longer loops on its own duplicate records. The inclusion list Campaign Creators built governs exactly which records write back to Salesforce and under what condition, replacing an integration that had been switching between conflicting Lead and Contact IDs and triggering field-permission errors across the database. NETGEAR's reseller and prospect data now lives in one governed HubSpot system of record, not scattered across Salesforce and disconnected reporting tools.

This governance model gives NETGEAR a foundation it can extend without rebuilding it. Because the data model stayed on HubSpot's standard Contact and Company objects, and reused Salesforce's own Record Type field to separate channel partners from end users, the marketing team can extend segmentation and reporting without administering new object types. And because the contact-qualification workflow gates every record behind real validation and engagement, NETGEAR now has a repeatable check before any future send that the original Marketing Cloud setup never had.

Solve Salesforce Data Debt and Channel Partner Re-Engagement With Campaign Creators

When a CRM has accumulated records for years without governance, every campaign built on top of it inherits the problem, and the first send is usually where that becomes visible. Closing the gap takes a governed integration, a migration sequenced so de-duplication happens before anything reaches an inbox, a qualification gate that validates contacts before they are mailed, and documentation your own team can work from.

Campaign Creators builds this foundation for companies carrying years of CRM data debt ahead of a campaign they cannot afford to launch on a broken list. If your team is migrating off Marketing Cloud, stabilizing a Salesforce integration that loops on its own duplicates, or preparing to re-engage a partner network that drifted while the data went unmanaged, we can build the system your next campaign depends on.
